Edoardo Rossi (b. 1999, Padova, Italy) is a contemporary landscape painter. He lives and works in Florence, Italy.   

Rossi’s practice involves plein air outings and treks to create studies in oil which he brings back to the studio to expand upon; alongside oils he also frequently completes studies in gouache. Rossi began with video game concept art, designing environments, and in 2023 he started his self-taught oil practice.  

Statement

I paint from life, starting with a plein air study and ending with a larger, rethought composition done in the studio. I have little time to block out or mix the right colour. Everything is quick and based on colour and form relationships I have discovered through experimenting. My starting sketch uncovers the forms and colours which eventually become the final painting.  


I enjoy exaggerating hues to show the nuance in the colour, overpowering blues and violets showing their strength in the shadow. I paint in oils because I find them to be the most versatile and forgiving; they allow me to rethink, come back and reimagine the painting. Oil doesn’t need to be meticulous like watercolours; it can be liberal and experimental. If oil is done correctly it lights up even in the dark.


When I set up I know every day my paintings change, not based on subject, but rather feeling – spontaneous feeling.

Summer 2026

A collection focusing on my work and travels this summer. 
The location of these paintings is important to the creation of the body of work but an emphasis is placed in making them almost anonymous as if they could all inhabit a place in our mind or our life that is given existence by the shapes, colors and forms the paintings take on as they are painted. 
A present theme I’m trying to communicate is the vastness and the tranquility these locations create in me.
